Gatherers ring a bell in request for
peace (8:15AM, August 6 at Myoukakuji Temple)
On the morning of August 6, the day of the
Hiroshima Bombing, bells could be heard ringing from temples and buildings in
Fukuchiyama City, requesting the abolishment of nuclear weapons.
Each year, the Fukuchiyama Atom and HydrogenBomb Society (Japanese site) and other
groups call out to the city's temples and various establishments. At 8:15AM,
August 6, when the bombs were dropped in 1945, bells could be heard ringing
from everywhere in the city in mourning of those who were sacrificed.
Nakaji Takami (66) of Higashioka-cho said
"Upon seeing pictures of the bombing, I thought those weapons should no
longer exist. We've sent out our requests for peace to the world."
On August 9, 11:02AM, the anniversary of the
Nagasaki bombing, the city's temples and other buildings will also sound their
bells for peace.

長崎に原爆が投下された9日午前11時2分にも市内の寺院などで平和の鐘を鳴らす。
