A missing elementary scholar in the city of Yokosuka was discovered by two police dogs. On the 22nd, they received praise from the Yokosuka Police Chief. The two dogs, accompanied by members of the police forensics section, received an official commendation and dog food.

Receiving the commendations were two female Labrador Retrievers, Rin (Age 3) and Bally (Age 2). One hour after beginning the search, the two dogs detected a scent. Near the premises of his house, the boy was taken under police protection and said to be discovered unharmed.

横須賀市内で行方不明になった小学生を発見した警察犬2頭が22日、横須賀署から署長賞を贈られた。2頭は、一緒に捜索した県警鑑識課員とともに、表彰状とドッグフードを受け取った。

表彰されたのは、ともに雌でラブラドルレトリバーのリン号(3歳)とバリー号(2歳)。同署によると、16日午後6時半ごろ、同市佐野町の小学4年生の男児(10)の行方が分からなくなり、同署の要請を受けた2頭が捜索のため出動した。

捜索を開始してから約1時間後、2頭はにおいを嗅ぎつけ、自宅近くの民家敷地にいる男児を発見、無事に保護したという。

警察犬歴は、リン号が1年7カ月、バリー号が1年4カ月。同署は「行方不明になると犯罪に巻き込まれる恐れもあるので、出動は大変助かる。いつも迅速な対応をしてもらい感謝している」とたたえた。
